Two years ago, KT Tunstall, Britain’s most loved songwriter thought she was done with music. She thought she’d performed her last professional show and recorded her last album. The beloved artist that broke onto the scene back in 2006 with the smash hit “Suddenly I See” – which featured in mainstream media ranging from the film “The Devil Wears Prada” to the television series “Grey’s Anatomy” – no longer had the desire to record and perfom.
She earned a Grammy nomination and broke stardom in the U.K. However, as time rolled on Tunstall experienced a major shift in life due to personal adversity and didn’t feel the shame as she once did about her music career.
I just got completely burnt out and I felt that I was done really with making records for a good while and I didn’t want to make another record and I didn’t want to tour.
She packed up her belongings and moved to Venice Beach. She ultimately found “sanctuary” on the West Coast and while riding along the Pacific Coast Highway listening to Fleetwood Mac and Tom Petty, the singers’ subconscious drive to record again sprung back to life.
The result: KIN – Tunstall’s fifth studio album bursting with cheerful, hopeful, pop vibes that stem from a place of true happiness.
I just feel like for the first time since the first record I’m in a really carefree, unselfconscious, vulnerable, strong place again.
KIN is relentlessly upbeat and littered with jovial energy. From the opening track “Hard Girls” to “Evil Eye,” Tunstall’s creation transport’s the listener into the front seat of a convertible on Highway 1. It’s a blissful record that showcases Tunstall’s true talent and one that needed to be written. Now that it’s done, the songwriter finds herself at the start of a new chapter – one that’s worthy of an equal amount of hype as the first.
KT Tunstall will perform at The Visulate Theatre in Charlotte, NC on Wednesday, March 1 at 7:45 p.m. Tickets for the show can be purchased HERE. For more information on KT Tunstall and additional tour dates, click HERE.
