It was just a few short months ago that the pop pop-punk native Cassadee Pope brought Hey Monday back from the dead if only for two dates on the 2018 Warped Tour. Before rebranding herself as a country music star, Pope cut her teeth on the scene as a front woman of a one album punk rock staple. The band, Hey Monday, eventually broke up before she would audition for the third year of The Voice, a season she went on to win back in 2012. Clinching her victory covering songs by country greats such as Keith Urban, Faith Hill, and Miranda Lambert.
Fast forward to the release of her second solo studio album “Stages” the 24-year-old from West Palm Springs has never felt more comfortable as an artist than she does now. On an album that clearly sounds like no compromises were made, Stages, is mixture of ups and downs. The whiskey drinking tale of “I’ve Been Good” to the punk rock inspired track “Distracted”. The sophomore album from Pope goes into detail about personal growth and difficulties along with the resilience to keep going through the struggles of life.
I always felt in my band and in the pop-rock format that I wasn’t weird enough, that I wasn’t standing out enough. Wearing things to get people’s attention – I didn’t want to do any of that. I didn’t want t compromise myself. I always felt pressure to, but in this format, I don’t at all.
The singer/songwriter has geared up for a busy 2019. In addition to releasing her album, Pope embarked on her first-ever headlining solo tour. The 11-date “CMT Next Women Of Country” tour will kicked off on April 11 in Tampa, making stops in major cities including Atlanta, Boston, New York, and Washington, DC, before wrapping up in Columbia, MO on May 4. Cassadee is joined on tour by fellow “CMT Next Women Of Country” inductees Clare Dunn and Hannah Ellis.
