The Revivalists, the New Orleans 7-piece behind the smash hit “Wish I Knew You” is currently touring the majority of the southeast on their headlining summer 2018 tour. Although it may feel like The Revivalists just stopped in Charlotte, this time around is much different. The alt rock jam band are moving up to the Charlotte Metro Credit Union Amphitheatre for a night under the stars after selling out the neighboring Fillmore in the winter.
As you can imagine, The Revivalists’ ensemble and sound is best seen and heard on a stage large enough to support their stature. Plus everything is better on a bigger stage outside. The Revivalists’ live show is dynamic, fun and quite possibly one of the most diverse rock shows you’ll see on this year’s summer circuit. The Revivalists check all the boxes when it comes to instrumentation. The Revivalists have built a memorable sound with a guitar, saxophone, bass guitar, drums, percussion, keyboard and trumpet. Their talent is showcased in smash hit “Wish I Knew You,” which encompasses the band’s varied strengths.
The song garnered so much attention upon its release, it broke the record for the most plays ever recorded during a week’s time in May 2017. It also found a spot in Blue Moon’s 2017 commerical. And all for good reason, the delicate strums of funk guitar, infectious keys, David Shaw’s voice and touch of brass are irresistible and pleasing.
“Wish I Knew You” has also helped the band build a dedicated national following.
“We did it by building a live audience and our fans bringing their friends to see us,” drummer Andrew Campanelli told The Augusta Chronicle. “So when we got a song on the radio, it was tens of thousands of people saying, ‘Our band is on the radio!’ That has allowed it to expand because our fans are excited about it and are telling their friends.”
Considering they’ve already sold out Charlotte once in the past year and are returning a second time for a bigger stage, Charlotte part of that friend group. If you’re not, join in and invite a friend to what could be The Revivalists’ last show in Charlotte for a while.
