Ferris Bueller once said, ” Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” It’s a good quote, but what does it have to do with Frank Iero And The Patience’s new EP Keep The Coffins Coming? Well, much like life, the band’s new album is short and to the point, yet there’s so much to listen to in the 12 minute run time.
Keep The Coffins Coming is raw and edgy, right on par with what we’d expect from Frank Iero And The Patience. Produced by Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies), the EP opens with “I’m A Mess.” It’s a song that fans might recognize from Parachuetes, although this updated version of the leadoff track is a bit grungier. It’s fast-paced and angsty, with vocals expressing feelings of being depressed and unhappy with oneself. However as the song progresses, Iero’s thoughts change as the final lyrics read, “I am just a mess… And I don’t wanna change.” In a nutshell, it’s a three-minute journey through the mind of anyone that’s coming to terms with beautiful mess that they are, all the while accompanied by a style that fits Frank Iero so well.
Frank Iero rehashes the track “BFF” as well, a song that featured a video of him and his two daughters back in 2014. Now back by the full band, Frank Iero And The Patience bring the song, that was written by his daughter Lily, full circle. “No Fun Club” delivers just over a minute of raw emotion before we get a taste of Frank Iero’s version of “You Are My Sunshine.” It’s not quite a song you’d initially expect Frank Iero And The Patience to cover, yet nonetheless it’s a nice touch to the four-song EP.
