Alvvays give listeners a taste of what’s to come with brand new single “Plimsoll Punks” off the band’s forthcoming, highly anticipated sophomore album, that’s set for release in less than a month. The song is the band’s answer to Television Personalities’ ‘Part-Time Punks’ and a winking surf opus indictment of the self-righteous who intend to condescend.
Previously released tracks “In Undertow” and “Dreams Tonite” showcase a band that’s releasing their best music to date. Commending the four-piece band for their style and upcoming album Antisocialites, Pitchfork said, “Alvvays never second-guess their core strength: anthemic, arm-swaying hooks that aim for the stars even when the sky is gray.”
Vulture carried the praise: “The band has kept their rivers of reverb, which sometimes makes them sound as though they’re playing to an empty middle-school gymnasium, an image that fittingly blends sweetness with melancholy.”
Alvvays hits the road for a long string of tour dates spanning the rest of the year beginning Aug. 26 in Leeds. The band will return to the U.S. east coast in the fall for show in Atlanta at Terminal West on Oct. 11. Tickets, tour dates and additional information regarding Alvvays can be found here.
