Taking Back Sunday and Coheed and Cambria have always run in the same circle. Since taking off in the early 2000s, they’ve shared a friendship and the world’s biggest stages, most recently on the World’s Loudest Month circuit in 2017 that included the Concord, N.C. festival Carolina Rebellion. However, they’ve never toured together, until this summer.
“At the North Carolina show, I remember Mark saying, ‘Why haven’t we toured together?’ And they got to talking after the shows to put it together,” Taking Back Sunday vocalist Adam Lazzara told the Charlotte Observer.
The idea came to fruition and the summer tour visits the Charlotte Metro Credit Union Amphitheatre on Saturday.
For Taking Back Sunday, who released their seventh studio album Tidal Wave in 2016, the show will serve as a short homecoming. Guitarist John Nolan, who celebrated his birthday at the Evening Muse a few months back, and Lazzara are NoDa residents and have never shied away from giving their city a memorable show. Two years ago, the pair celebrated Tidal Wave’s release at Lunchbox Records with an intimate performance. But this Saturday they’ll be on one of the biggest stages in Charlotte, the same one they gave a performance of the summer on two years ago.
On the other hand, Coheed and Cambria are building up to their ambitious, forthcoming 10th studio album titled The Unheavenly Creatures. The band has already shared two singles, “The Dark Sentencer” and “Unheavenly Creatures,” off the upcoming project and is predictably playing both live. Known for their exciting live shows, it wouldn’t be all that surprising if frontman Claudio Sanchez decided to sneak in an additional track off the upcoming record into the set list.
