Like last year, Thirty Seconds To Mars is spending the summer on the road. However, unlike last year Jared and Shannon Leto are headlining their biggest and most ambitious tour to date, in America. The band released their fifth studio album in April, simply titled America and they’ve been trekking across the globe performing both the classic hits and celebrating ever since.

“We’re playing the biggest venues, we have massive production,” Leto told Billboard. “It’s ambitious in terms of the size of scope, the creative elements and the places that we’re playing. We’re incredibly excited about it – it’s really fun to have a summer in the States.”
It’s difficult to imagine what Leto is exactly referring to when he says “ambitious.” This is coming from someone who played the infamous Joker for Suicide Squad and refused to act out of character, even off set. He sent Will Smith a box of bullets and a letter and gave Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje “sticky Playboy magazines.”
Musically, Leto is equally committed. Last summer at PNC Music Pavilion opening for Muse, he invited practically the entire pit onto stage with him and spent half the set in the second level hanging out with fans. He was decked in an extravagant outfit consisting of blue track pants, a flowery satin scarf and Eastbound & Down inspired sunglasses. Compared to most bands, that would’ve classified as ambitious enough.
However, Thirty Seconds To Mars promise the Monolith Tour is bigger and better. Leto has already revealed the duo are spending two hours on stage playing not only a handful of tracks off America, but also the slew of hits they’ve produced over the years. There’s a lot to be excited about.
“A lot of energy, a lot of spontaneity, a lot of participation from the audience, a lot of breaking of tradition,” Leto told Billboard. “A show that’s just high-energy and a night that I hope nobody forgets. We’re on stage every night to service the audience and put on a show that reminds people about the possibilities of life and how much we all have in common rather than differences. It’s going to be a celebration.”
Thirty Seconds To Mars, along with Walk The Moon, Joywave, Misterwives and Sir Sly visit the PNC Music Pavilion in Charlotte on June 27. Tickets for the tour are available here. Busy Wednesday night? Catch Thirty Seconds To Mars at any other remaining stop on the summer tour.
