Imagine being 20-something years old, an aspiring rock star and managed by a pair of musicians that sold three platinum albums back-to-back-to-back in their heyday. For Waterparks… it’s reality.
Hailing from Houston, the trio consisting of Awsten Knight (lead vocals/guitar), Geoff Wigington (vocals/guitar) and Otto Wood (vocals/drums) are about to make a HUGE splash. The band formed in 2012 and after enduring a few member changes, they found their footing. In 2015, Waterparks landed a record deal with Equal Vision Records, found managers in Benji and Joel Madden of Good Charlotte and performed with the pop-punk legends during their comeback show at The Troubadour in Hollywood.
It’s a scenario that up-and-coming musicians dream of…
Fast forward to now - 2016 is the year of Waterparks. In the spring they toured with Never Shout Never and performed at SXSW. Over the summer, they played every date on Vans Warped Tour. Recently, they went abroad supporting Good Charlotte and announced that they’ll support Sleeping With Sirens on their upcoming ‘End the Madness!’ tour.
However, it’s not the must-see upcoming tour dates or Awsten’s new hair color that has fans going bananas (although, they’re buzzing over that too). Waterparks just released their first single from their first full-length album Double Dare and it’s amazing.
“Stupid For You” is a track that’s been stuck in a time capsule for 10 years. It’s a track with the feels of Bowling For Soup or Good Charlotte and certainly a song that’ll run through listeners’ heads for hours on end. If pop-punk is your thing, then Waterparks will become your new addiction.
