Nineties-era rock and roll took a huge loss this past week with the sudden passing of iconic front-man: Chris Cornell. Aside from the grief caused when a special talent passes, nostalgia sets in. When discussing the biggest and most notable rock-acts that came from the nineties era, our minds automatically shift to the Seattle music-scene that birthed Cornell’s Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and Nirvana, however; another band from across the pond is also synonymous with that era’s best: Bush. The London quartet recently released their highly anticipated seventh album: Black and White Rainbows and are currently embarked in an extensive tour that will cover plenty of worldwide venues through October.

Touching down in the recently inaugurated Coca-Cola Roxy Theatre in beautiful Atlanta, Gavin Rossdale and his crew invade the stage at 9:00 sharp to a frenzied fan-base that packed the venue from wall to wall. At 51, Rossdale still has the spunk and physique of a man half his age, navigating the stage from end to end and shredding a mean guitar in conjunction to classic rock-star posing. For their part, remaining members: guitarist Chris Traynor, bassist Corey Britz and drummer Robin Goodridge all bring their A-game and showmanship to heighten the rock-atmosphere presented to the thousands on hand.
The nearly two-hour show provides plenty of highlights like Gavin Rossdale making his way to the venue’s upper-deck to vocalize amongst the “seated” fans, an impressive strobe light show and, of course, the incredible individual talents each member brings to the table. While the band played several hits off the new album, it was during the encore that the energy in the stands went off the charts as the boys provided the fans with renditions of R.E.M.’s “The One I Love” and Bush mega-hits “Glycerine” and finale “Comedown.” The sight of thousands bellowing each lyric in unison speaks volumes of the importance of Bush’s contributions to the music industry. While Bush began their rock-music journey well over two decades ago, it is apparent that their tunes hold a timeless nature that makes nineties-rock incredibly relevant still in 2017.
