You don’t want to miss a night like this with LP

Let’s start with this: Laura Pergolizzi, known simply by her stage name LP, is talented and has some pipes. The singer/songwriter from Long Island can flat-out sing, period. On top of that she’s a rock star on the ukelele and a champion whistler. LP blends a mix of sounds that are typically unheard in modern music. She’s incredibly unique, original and a joy to watch perform on stage. She’s dramatic, entertaining and by watching LP orchestrate her musical prowess, it’s clear she knows just what she’s doing.

LP’s live show is best described as a powerful locomotive that spends the first 30 minutes building steam before hitting top speed as it reaches the peak of the mountain. She modestly begins with “Strange” and “Other People” - a crowd pleasing sing-along that allows LP to sway to the left and right of the microphone while whistling blissful harmonies into the crowd. It’s the first taste of LP’s undeniable talents.

Touring on behalf of her 2017 release Lost on You, LP’s set list primarily consists of her most recently released songs. She seamlessly moves from “Up Against Me” to “You Want It All” to “Suspicion” without skipping a beat. LP is just warming up and soon after introduces the audience to a new song, “Girls Gone Wild.” The cheerful and catchy rhythm teleports the listener to the west coast in a convertible cruising down the freeway. It’s impossible not to walk away with the lyrics, “Girls go wild on the west coast, come on baby let’s go, that’s what you say,” stuck in your head.

The song is a turning point in her show. Her stage design - a symmetrically placed set of gleaming LED bars behind the band - increasingly become alive. You can feel LP beginning to reach her pinnacle. After a few slower, yet beloved tracks - “Switchblade” and “Tokyo Sunrise” - the singer introduces the foot thumping “No Witness.”

The show turns on its head. Within seconds the mood turns from a peaceful performance to a full-blown rock show. But it’s at this moment that LP shifts into high gear and blows the crowd away with her vocals on “When We’re High,” “Free to Love” and “Lost on You.” The singer’s vocal range is on full display, almost to the point that goosebumps overtake your body. And there’s a time within these three songs, you feel that “wow” moment. It’s so convincing that every single person in attendance roared for a minute nonstop demanding an encore. Plus, LP couldn’t leave without performing “Into The Wild” - the song that had everyone googling “Who sings that ‘Somebody left the gate open’ song?” in 2012.
