Listeners of Lana Del Rey, Karen O, Debbie Harry and Nancy Sinatra, take notice. Promising newcomer Youngblood just premiered their much anticipated new single, “Better When You’re Close,” along with a full length music video for the track.
“‘Better When You’re Close’ is about romantic obsession to the point of possession- where you feel like your entire body and mind have been involuntarily taken over by the mere proximity of another person and you’ve lost your sense of self,” explains Alexis Young. “It’s about coming to terms with the realities of putting love and lust on a pedestal, and just how quickly a person can become consumed by infatuation of the highest degree. Crippling, consuming, and it also has a sweet bass line that you can dance to, because why not.”
The dreamy melodies and retro-pop feel make Youngblood extremely infectious and catchy. Their 2016 debut EP, Feel Alright, proved just that. The first single and title track “Feel Alright” reached No. 6 on the Spotify Viral Chart immediately after its release, with the EP itself currently nearing one million streams.
“Better When You’re Close” will be the lead single off of Youngblood’s new EP Fantasy Love, slated for release this July.
